A Good Choice
There is a good reason you are spending time with us at Amada Colossos here on Rhodes. You can relax and unwind in a cosmopolitan Mediterranean environment; a unique mingling of history, heritage and myth presenting you with a wonderful mosaic of experiences. This is the island steeped in the legends of its medieval knights and the ‘was- there-or-wasn’t-there’ conundrum of the mythical Colossus. It is a cultural melting pot created by Byzantines, Greeks, Venetians and Turks, all of whom have all left an enduring legacy. Tradition lives and breathes here. Even a leisurely stroll around any one of its picturesque villages is accompanied by the aroma of bread baking in outdoor wood-fired ovens that have been used for centuries.
Playing Your Part
Just as it has done throughout its storied past, Rhodes continues to feel the love of all of you who choose to visit us no matter how long your stay. Precisely because of this, we know you would like to contribute to keeping things here in the way you have always enjoyed them. To help you take a deep dive into the local culture with the right amounts of care and consideration and continue to cultivate awareness and sensitivity for this precious destination, we offer some practical information as a guide to some of the decisions you will take during your stay.
Experiences That Count
You will find plenty of small local businesses which we ask you to wholeheartedly support. They champion the best of our nature, customs, craft and hospitality, adding value and meaning as well as enjoyment to your holiday. Just ask our

Taking Care of History
Our many archaeological sites, cultural monuments and museums housing fascinating artefacts provide an incredible insight into bygone eras for reasonable admission fees. Naturally we ask for your assistance in their preservation and
protection by
refraining from flash photography when requested,
avoiding direct contact with exhibits and
not bringing food or drinks to exhibitions or historical landmarks. Find out more about Rhodes’ rich heritage, museums and archaeological sites

Wise Waste Disposal
Every landscape admired, every street walked, every corner turned brings a new story to fire your imagination. We look forward to partnering with you to retain the beauty and mystery in our environment by getting rid of rubbish in a handy bin or having the patience to wait until you find one. We ask that you use a refillable water bottle to keep the use of plastic to a minimum whenever possible. If you do end up with any plastic bottle tops, put them in our Amada dolphin near the main swimming pool. Every ton recovered from the dolphin amounts to the cost of one wheelchair.

Respecting Our Wildlife
For all the wonders to behold on Rhodes from its compelling history to its colourful flora, its fauna is perhaps the most joyous element of our precious natural environment. Indeed, taking pride of place as the symbol of Rhodes is the European fallow deer (Dama Dama). This beautiful and delicate creature quite rightly comes under the umbrella of protected species. There can be no more enchanting a sight than a baby deer curled up contentedly in the undergrowth with its mother keeping a watchful eye somewhere nearby. This is one of a number of special moments you will be privileged to witness that also call for your utmost respect and responsibility. As with all the types of wildlife you will encounter here, we ask that you enjoy by observing from a reasonable distance and not disturb the animal in any way.
The Dos and Don’ts of Animal Safety
There could be occasions, however, when an animal is in need of help. Should you see it lying down with legs and neck stretched out away from its body; running around screaming and in a state of panic for over an hour or obviously suffering from extensive injuries, immediately contact an official wildlife care centre. Despite your natural instinct to help, in this case what you don’t do is usually more important than anything else. Do not try to give it food or drink. Do not try to look for guidance online. Do not try to lift the animal as this could result in its more serious injury or death. Simply make a note of the exact spot where it was found and wait for expert assistance.

All Donations Make a Difference
Animal protection and rescue services work tirelessly to care for the island’s wildlife and all your donations have an impact on their work. Just to give you an idea; €5 provides a week’s worth of seed for a bird and €50 is enough to feed a fish-eating bird or 10 small mammals for a month. As for well-being issues, €10 pays to keep an exhausted bird warm for 10 days, while €100 covers the medical supplies for an operation.
